The municipalities of Librilla, Campos del Río and Villanueva del Segura will have their respective Local Police Corps once they have completed the ‘Selective Training Course for Applicants for Local Police Officers’, taught by the School of Training and Innovation of the Public Administration (EFIAP).

In total there will be 12 local police officers, of which six are destined to Librilla, four to Campos del Río and two to Villanueva del Segura. Once the training course has been completed, their respective town halls must proceed to their appointment as career civil servants and local police officers.

The general director of Public Function and Quality of Services, Carmen María Zamora, expressed her satisfaction «for the good development of the course, in which the municipalities of Murcia and Cartagena have collaborated», for which she thanked those responsible for their Local Police «their willingness to meet the proposed objectives» and moved his congratulations «to those who have overcome to become career officers of their local corporations.»

Until now the police services in these municipalities were developed by Local Police auxiliaries, since these municipalities did not have a specific body, having less than 5,000 inhabitants. After the corresponding convocations of the city councils, once the opposition phase was over and appointees were appointed, the assistants had to pass the selective course as a requirement for their appointment and taking office as career civil servants.

Continuous evaluation and practices

The 12 participating students have completed a total of 276 hours of training, divided into theoretical and practical sessions. The program included five areas of knowledge and an area of practice, which sought to harmonize the training needs of the student, the concepts, procedures and basic attitudes necessary for professional practice and the performance of Local Police functions: Technical-Police Areas , Legal, Traffic and Road Safety, Psychosocial and Emergency.

The course, of face-to-face modality, was developed in the facilities of the City Council of Librilla and those of the School of Public Security of the City of Cartagena, for shooting practices. In addition, the course included a tele-training platform, in which the teachers provided the content materials. The training was completed in the Police Corps of the municipality to which the applicants corresponded and in the facilities of the staff of the Local Police of Murcia, over six weekends and a total of 36 hours.
