Yesterday was presented in Madrid the stamp dedicated to the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Chemical elements, whose First Day is carried out by the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia, which has built on its main façade the Periodic Table of the Elements biggest in the world.
The image of this façade has been used by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) before the general assemblies of UNESCO / UN to obtain the declaration of 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table.
The act of presentation, held at the Student Residence in Madrid, was attended by the Secretary of State of La España Global, Irene Lozano, together with the professor of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of the Basque Country, Pascual Román and the Commercial Director of CORREOS , Carlos Millán, as well as outstanding personalities of the Chemistry like the dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia Pedro Lozano; Pilar Goya, President of the European Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EUCheMS) and President of the Spanish Society of Therapeutic Chemistry; José Elguero, President of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences; Antonio M. Echevarren, President of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry; Nazario Martín, President of the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE), or Alfredo Rubalcaba, former Minister and Professor of Chemistry.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first version of the modern periodic table proposed by Dimitri Ivanovich Mendeleev, a fact that the United Nations has wanted to highlight with the declaration of 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements .
With this motive, Correos issued yesterday a seal to which it accompanies the first day envelope with the image of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia- in which the chemical elements discovered by Spaniards are represented, on a periodic background table. On the stamp stand a V, a W and a Pt, which are the symbols of the three elements discovered by Spaniards: Antonio Andrés del Río (discoverer of vanadium), the brothers Juan José and Fausto Delhuyar (who isolated the tungsten in Vergara) , and Antonio de Ulloa (who found platinum in Ecuador).
