Today, September 24, 2018, the Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, patron of inmates and prisons. The chaplains and volunteers of the Penitentiary Pastoral Groups of the Murcia I (Sangonera) and Murcia II (Campos del Río) centers have celebrated, together with the prisoners, the day of their patron, with two celebrations of the Eucharist. The archbishop of Sucre (Bolivia), Bishop Jesus Juarez, presided over the celebration in Sangonera, while the vicar of the pastoral area of Caravaca-Mula, Jesús Aguilar, did it in Campos del Río.
Josefa Vera, apostolic sister of Christ Crucified and responsible for the volunteers of Penitentiary Pastoral in Sangonera, emphasizes that the inmates have participated with emotion in the Eucharist. «You can be happy in prison, everything is inside us, trust in God»; they have been some of the encouraging messages that have sprung up during the celebration. «
