Soaked by the red wine in Jumilla

The clubs distribute around 70,000 liters of wine at the finale to the Fiestas de la Asunción.

The final stretch of the Fair and Festivals of August in honor of the Virgen de la Asunción, Patron of Jumilla, starred on Saturday the Great Wine Parade, organized by the Federation of Peñas de la Fiesta de la Vendimia. A finishing touch to conclude the celebrations in the best possible way. Thousands of tourists and visitors came to the City of Wine to experience one of the great festivals of the Region, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, which attracts every year not only those who are already regulars to the splendours, but also all those people who need to live in their own skin the wine tourism experience of literally talking about wine.

Twenty federated floats took part in the ride on this Saturday, which distributed around 70,000 liters of wine and sangria among the attendees. The public, soaked with wine beyond the ears, was pending throughout the day of a leaden sky that threatened rain, but in the end did not stop dancing to the beat of charangas coming from other municipalities, which put the soundtrack to a late that dyed lilac and purple-own colors of wine blood-a municipality that in the next few days starts its harvest season.

The party began at seven o’clock in the afternoon from the Avenida de Reyes Católicos to go through the avenue of Murcia, Cánovas del Castillo and Valencia streets and Juan XXIII street to end on Avenida de Levante. Around two hours of itinerary of a Great Cavalcade in which Jumilla was soaked with wine and in which thousands of visitors absorbed as sponges the best that the party offers. At the end, all of them could make use of a public shower service that was enabled, by the City Council, in the Food Market. The Consistory was also in charge of the cleaning tasks of the main and adjacent streets as soon as the party was over.

To ensure both safety and health care, the City Council launched, together with the State Security Corps and Forces, a security device that had more than a hundred agents of the Local Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection , Firemen and Red Cross.

In the entrances and exits to the municipality diverse controls of alcohol and drugs on the part of the Benemérita and the Local Police were realized, that counted, in addition, with dogs specialized in the detection of narcotics. Likewise, security measures were adopted on the main roads and access to the route of the Cavalcade, with the aim of preventing access by unauthorized vehicles.

Awards
The headquarters of the Peña La Alborga hosted the delivery of prizes to the floats competing with different reasons, all of them alluding to the celebration of the harvest and wine. In this edition, the honor prize went to the Peña El Ribazo, whose motif was the Santa Ana Pit Fountain. For its part, the first prize was won by the Peña El Casco Antiguo; the second was for La Uvica Monastrell and the third prize for the peña La Horica er Cigarrico. For its part in the Children’s Parade, the prize of honor was taken by the El Albal rock with its extraterrestrials from the planet Albal; the first prize was for Los Soyaos, the second for Los Culebras and the third prize for Los Borrachos. Twenty Peñas participated in both the Children’s and the Traditional Cabalgata.

The fair and celebrations of August will end this Sunday with the descent of the Patroness, the Virgin of the Assumption, from the parish of Santiago to its habitual abode, the Hermitage of San Agustín
