La Manga del Mar Menor launches a free internet access service, through Wi-Fi coverage, at Mistral beach (San Javier) and Cala del Pino (Cartagena). Thus bathers can access their favorite multimedia content with high definition while enjoying a day of sun and relaxation on the beach.
This is a pilot project to implement smart beaches in La Manga, one of the most tourist areas of the Region, to expand and improve the portfolio of more advanced services to its residents and thousands of visitors, time to move forward so that the beaches are more inclusive, inclusive, accessible and sustainable.
The General Directors of Transport, Coasts and Ports, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, and of Information Technology, Heritage and Telecommunications, Juan José Almela, today presented this initiative developed within the framework of the regional project ‘La Manga Abierta 365’ as a way of doing Europe. It is co-financed by 80 percent by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the rest by the Autonomous Community.
«The beaches of the XXI century must not only be well equipped and accessible, but also offer services and technologies to users that allow them to interact with them,» said the general director of Transport, who noted that «the goal of the regional government is to turn La Manga into a modern and innovative destination through the use of technologies «.
In addition, «bring telecommunications and make them available to all users is a commitment of the regional government to end the digital divide,» added the general director of Information Technology, Heritage and Telecommunications, Juan José Almela.
Diez de Revenga explained that this pilot experience starts on the beaches of Mistral and Cala del Pino and announced that «if it has good acceptance among users, it can be extended to the other beaches of La Manga».
WiFi connection
The wifi connection is called ‘La Manga 365’ and the user has different ways to register and surf the Internet without any cost. Thus, you can connect using a user and password from social networks such as Facebook or Google. Users will be able to navigate up to a total amount of traffic, with no speed limit.
The wifi platform is simultaneous dual-band, which guarantees optimal coverage over long distances. Three free Internet connection points have been installed, of which two of them are located in Mistral beach and another in Cala del Pino.
With the statistics of this service, it will be possible to know how many people use internet on the beach and even know their nationality.
