The Region gets for Spain the sixth place in the III European Agrolympics Championship held in Portugal

The Integrated Center for Training and Agricultural Experiences (Cifea) of Torre Pacheco has achieved, representing Spain, the sixth place among a total of 19 countries participating in the III European Agrolympics Championship, held in Porto (Portugal).

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Angel del Amor, visited the center today, where he congratulated the participating students and noted that «during the competition 18 tests related to the specialties of agricultural training, in two of which the Spanish team has achieved the maximum score of the championship. » Del Amor announced that «the regional government will work for the next edition of Agrolympics to be held in the Region».

The Torre Pacheco Cifea has achieved, on behalf of Spain, the sixth place among a total of 19 countries participating in the III European Agrolympics Championship, held in Porto (Portugal).

With this sixth position the Region of Murcia manages to improve the classification of the two previous editions, in which Spain had been among the last positions, and surpasses countries such as Germany, Austria, Great Britain and Finland.

The Torre Pacheco Cifea was selected to participate in Agrolympics 2018, where Professional Training Centers of the European Union’s agrarian family that belong to the International European Association (a training center per country) participate.

The members of the team that have participated take vocational training in the training cycles of higher level of landscape and rural areas and medium-level agricultural production.

Del Amor noted that «the participants were selected for their academic record and their skills in different specialty practices.» During August the students and their teachers / tutors made a few days of preparation of the tests in the center.

Competition tests

During the competition 18 tests related to the specialties of agricultural training were held: machinery, livestock, forestry, fruit growing, irrigation and oenology. In them, the participants showed their skills in driving tractors, changing wheels and blades of tools, cutting logs, designing irrigation facilities, milking, stacking straw alpacas and placing corks in bottles, among others. In all of them, aspects such as precision, time and cleanliness were evaluated.

For its participation in Agrolympics 2018, the Murcia team had the support of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Also with that of the Agroherni companies (Production and export of vegetables), Agricultural (Irrigation equipment and materials) and Agrosan (Agricultural machinery).
