The guardians of time already issue reports every half hour

The Meteorological Office also prepares special parts if the conditions worsen
Reports every half hour and specific parts if the weather conditions worsen. That is the mission of the Aerodrome Meteorological Office (OMA) of the Corvera airport that has been operational since yesterday.

Four people cover the shifts of this service that the Ministry of Development awarded to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) this summer for 187,026 euros and a term of one year, extendable by two more. The office is open from 7 in the morning to 10 at night daily during the autumn-winter time (from the end of October to the end of March). And from 7 in the morning to 11 in the evening from Monday to Friday, and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to 23 hours, in the spring-summer season.

The director of the territorial center of the Aemet in the Region, Juan Esteban Palenzuela, explained that the office, which has been in tests until yesterday, carries out a work of continuous meteorological monitoring of the field conditions (both for takeoffs and landings). This is called ‘Metar’ parts, which are broadcast at half-hour intervals.

In addition, meteorologists assigned to this office will prepare ‘Speci’ reports, when these conditions are modified at the aerodrome: they can be broadcast at any time and will alert of changes that may affect the flights (such as reduced visibility, for example).
According to these meteorological data, the airport sets in motion, if necessary, the procedures so that all these conditions do not affect the operation in a significant way.

A main office in Seville is responsible for the weather forecast. This center makes local forecasts for each aerodrome that depends on it, such as those in the Region, Andalusia, Extremadura and Melilla.
