The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, with the collaboration with the Local Police of Águilas, has developed an investigation aimed at clarifying the causes of three fires that, in less than twenty-four, originated in a building of Águilas, which has culminated with the arrest of two persons as alleged perpetrators of the arson crimes with risk to persons, the crime of arson with the purpose of defrauding and the crime of damage.

Those arrested have been remanded in custody.

The investigation began on August 14, when the Civil Guard learned of the fire originated in a building in the municipality of Águilas.

Agents of the Civil Guard and the Local Police went to the place and evicted the building, several firefighters had to intervene to put out the flames and a neighbor, who was injured, was evacuated by the emergency medical services.

The first investigations carried out by the investigators allowed to find out that the accident had originated in one of the houses, of the first floor of the building when its only inhabitant was outside the building.

The next day, less than twenty-four hours later, another fire, this time on the fifth floor, affected the same block of houses, so the neighbors had to be evicted again.

After this second event, and the suspicions that the claims had been caused intentionally, the Civil Guard examined the property, where they found three other small fire in different parts of the farm, which reaffirmed the theory of alleged intentionality.

Three hours later, another fire started inside one of the elevators, caused, apparently, after a garbage bag burned inside it, forcing it to travel, for the third time in less than twenty-four hours, to Several firefighting crews.

During several days, the researchers gathered indications of the different scenarios where the accidents took place and interviewed practically all the neighbors, most of them, people who were occupying the houses during their holiday period.

The information collected focused the research on a married couple, housed on the fifth floor of the burning floor. Apparently these had had some disagreements with the president of the Community of Neighbors, person who occupied the floor of the first floor where the first fire occurred and, presumably, took advantage of his absence to throw an incendiary object through one of the windows.

After the first fire, supposedly, they set fire inside their house, located on the fifth floor, with two alleged intentions: to divert the attention of investigators and obtain compensation from the insurance company.

The Civil Guard found out that these people appeared related to other alleged sinister by fire.

Later, with the idea of making believe that it could be acts of vandalism committed by someone outside the building, burned a bag of garbage inside the elevator. The analysis of the remains of calcined garbage allowed to identify them.

Yesterday, 23 August, the operation ‘FRANSENA II’ culminated with the arrest of two people a man of 41 years and a woman of 39, marriage, natives and residents of Granada as alleged perpetrators of arson crimes at risk to people, fire crime for the purpose of defrauding and crime of damages.

Those arrested and the proceedings ordered have been made available to the Court of Instruction number 3 of Lorca, who has ordered his entry into preventive detention.
