Banco Santander completes a plan to reduce its number of employees and branches. The Employment Regulation File (ERE) will affect 3,000 employees and more than 1,000 branches will be closed, as published by the newspaper ‘Expansion’.

With this plan, it intends to adapt its branch network after the purchase of Banco Popular. The total adjustment will exceed 4,000 employees if the previous ERE is added.

Santander will soon begin negotiations with the unions to try to close an agreement next April.

The entity will make a proposal similar to the one made in December 2017, which involved 1,100 employees leaving the central services. This plan included both voluntary redundancies and a plan for early retirement.

In addition, Santander launched a relocation plan that managed to employ 75% of those who participated.

Regarding the Popular absorption process, 30% of the offices are already integrated and the rate is from 100 to 200 weekly.
