The DGT develops between December 10 and 16 last special campaign of the year, in which the Traffic Association of the Civil Guard will control about 6,000 drivers
The Provincial Traffic Headquarters begins today the last special campaign of the year, focused on the control of the rate of alcohol and presence of drugs in which the Traffic Association of the Civil Guard will control around 6,000 drivers until December 16.

Between January 1 and August 16, 2018, 22% of those killed in traffic accidents in the Region of Murcia had drugs in the body, and another 22% alcohol in blood, a percentage that reached 3% in the case of presence of both substances in the organism, according to statistics of the Institute of Legal Medicine of the Region of Murcia.

During the January / November 2018 period, a total of 195,463 inter-urban alcohol tests were performed, resulting in 2,400 positives, representing 1.23% of the total, and 5,015 of drugs, with 2,093 positive results. , which represents 41.73% of the total.

The Provincial Traffic Authority reminds that drug controls are carried out among those drivers who, when stopped in a control, show evident symptoms of having consumed, so the percentage of positives is always high.

«The only safe rate is 0.0, and the consumption of alcohol or drugs causes serious problems in our psychophysical conditions and worsens the attention, perception and coordination in the driver,» explains Virginia Jerez, head of the agency

As the concentration of alcohol in the blood (BAC) increases in the driver, the accident incidence rate also increases. The increase in the accident incidence rate that results from an increase in the BAC is progressive. In comparison with a sober driver, the accident incidence rate of a driver with a BAC of 0.8 g / l (this being the legal limit in 3 of the 25 EU member states, in Spain is 0, 3 g / l), is 2.7 times greater than that of a sober driver. When a driver has a BAC of 1.5 g / l, his accident incidence rate is estimated to be 22 times higher than that of a sober driver.

The consumption of alcohol and drugs is also dangerous for the pedestrian

The pedestrian, as the weakest user of the road, also needs to be in full use of his physical and mental faculties so as not to take risks. The intake of alcohol and / or drugs is also a danger as a user of public roads.

In urban areas, the highest number of deaths is caused by being run over. Less perception or misperception of their environment, loss of vision, greater risk taking are consequences that result from the intake of alcohol and increases the possibility of suffering a stroke

During the year 2017, 14 pedestrians died in the Region of Murcia. According to data from the Institute of Legal Medicine, in 7 of them (50%) the presence of alcohol or drugs in the body was detected.

In 2018, from January 1 to August 16, 4 pedestrians died in the Region of Murcia. According to provisional data of the IML, in 1 of them (25%), the presence of drugs in the organism was detected.
