Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias close a principle of agreement for the 2019 Budgets

The President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, and the Secretary General of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, have closed on Wednesday a principle of agreement for the General State Budget (PGE) for 2019, after the meeting held at the Palace of La Moncloa , according to Europa Press sources of the negotiation. The document agreed between Unidos Podemos and PSOE is being reviewed by the teams of both parties that have participated in the meetings prior to the agreement. Sources of Finance have stressed to Europa Press that the agreement is not closed at all, although it is “very finalized”. In any case, it is expected that the content of it will be announced throughout this Thursday. The meeting in Moncloa, of which they have not previously informed the media, has occurred after three days of intense contacts between the Government and Podemos to save the pitfalls that prevented the agreement. In fact, in the last hours the communication has been continuous between the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, and the Secretary of Organization of the purple party, Pablo Echenique, with a meeting included. This same Wednesday, the vice presidents of the Government and the Generalitat, Carmen Calvo and Pere Aragonès, met in Barcelona before attending the Pimec Awards. “We have been talking about the very good possibilities for Catalonia that would be opened in case we could have some PGE,” said Calvo. “(Catalonia) could handle their budgets more broadly, we are talking about an important amount of 2,200 million,” the minister told reporters before the event. One of the main stumbling blocks in the negotiations has been the issue of housing. In this regard, the Minister of Finance has advanced on Wednesday that the 2019 Budgets will include “very important” issues regarding access to housing and rent, to facilitate that citizens can continue living in the usual places where they reside. As he has said, the new public accounts will include measures related to access to a “dignified” home for citizens. “The Government is going to commit to all the policies that affect the citizens, in terms of rent there is a long way to go,” Montero pointed out when asked about whether the 2019 PGE will include measures to regulate the rental price. The Executive and the formation of Churches have been negotiating the public accounts since August and both parties expected to have the global agreement ready this week, before sending to the European Commission, as late as October 15, the general lines of the budget plan . However, the negotiations stalled last weekend, after the government sent to Podemos a written proposal that was “disappointing” for the “morados”, by not expressing the verbal commitments that, according to Podemos, had been expressed by the government. Executive. The party of Iglesias announced on Monday that at that time they were in the ‘no’, because they were missing some of the measures they consider priority and fundamental, such as those aimed at puncturing the rent bubble, the rise in the minimum wage to 1,000 euros in 2019 , the recovery of the unemployment subsidy from the age of 52 and the provision of funds to pay the dependency aid to the beneficiaries who do not charge them.
