MAZARRÓN / A useful guide delves into the history and architecture of the municipality from the late 19th century to the 60s

The Mazarron journalist Miguel Rubio and the councilman of Culture of the City council of Mazarrón, Pedro Martinez, have presented this Thursday in Consistorial Houses the useful guide ‘Mazarron between two centuries. A walk through the architecture and history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. With this work, Miguel Rubio delves into the knowledge of the heritage that emerged in the period from the end of the 19th century to the 60s, coinciding with the boom of modern mining until the moment of tourist takeoff.

The author has highlighted that with this guide «a gap that currently exists in terms of available information is filled». To develop this work Miguel Rubio has had the support of the Department of Culture of the City of Mazarrón and the collaboration of architects, municipal officials and neighbors who with their memories have managed to provide more information. Among the collaborators stands out the name of the Official Chronicler of the Villa, Mariano Guillén Riquelme.

For the Councilor for Culture of the City of Mazarrón, Pedro Martínez, «this is a work of great interest that provides greater knowledge of local history, making it more accessible to neighbors and those who visit Mazarrón and want to know more about their past.»

Miguel Rubio has indicated that important work now comes with the maintenance of an inheritance inherited not only material, but also immaterial. The journalist has remembered the history that treasures, for example, the street Lardines de Mazarron, being a main artery of the town not only in mining era.

The guide can be retired for free at the Tourist Office of Puerto de Mazarrón starting this Friday.
