Photo report of the commemorative acts of the Centenary of the Painter Medina Vera

The Mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández López and the Minister of Culture and Tourism Miriam Guardiola Salmerón have visited tonight the exhibition of the archenero painter Inocencio Medina Vera, which is celebrated on the occasion of its centenary and that today has opened its doors. The exhibition will remain until the end of May and can be found in the Archena Museum’s exhibition hall. Both leaders have agreed to describe this exhibition as «historical and universal», since it has managed to gather 23 works of the painter, from the Thyssen and Prado museums in Madrid, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia and also from the dependencies of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and of private collections.

Inocencio Medina Vera was born in Archena in 1876 and died in this town in 1918. His career was already from a young age to painting and thus studied drawing and painting in Murcia in 1893. He traveled to Madrid to study at the Royal Academy of Fine arts. He collaborated in the decoration of the Romea Theater in Murcia and made illustrations for ABC and Blanco y Negro. He also traveled to Argentina where he achieved fame as a portraitist.

He stood out as a costumbrista artist of the Spanish regionalist current and his painting ‘christening in the garden’ won the second medal of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. This event was also attended by councilors of the Municipal Government Team and almost a hundred people.
