Adif AV puts in tension a new section of catenary in the High Speed Line Monforte del Cid-Murcia

Source: Adif High Speed
The route runs between the station of Elche Alta Velocidad and El Reguerón (access to Murcia), and is integrated into the Madrid-Levante high-speed connection and the Mediterranean Corridor.
In this way, the entire route between the Vinalopó and El Reguerón bifurcation (access to Murcia) will already be provided with electricity.

The objective of this action is to check the correct state of the facilities and to be able to carry out the necessary tests on them

Adif Alta Velocidad will put in tension, starting on December 20, a new section of catenary of the High Speed Line (LAV) Monforte del Cid-Murcia, which represents a new advance in the execution of this infrastructure.

This stretch, between Elche Alta Velocidad station and El Reguerón (access to Murcia), runs between the provinces of Alicante and Murcia and is also integrated into the Madrid-Levante high-speed connection and the Mediterranean Corridor.

The purpose of this action is to check the correct condition of the facilities and to be able to carry out the necessary tests on them. The catenary to which electrical voltage will be supplied is located at the following points of the LAV:

Track 1: from kilometer point 480/727 to 518/671, along 37.8 km.

Track 2: from kilometer point 481/297 to 504/384, along 23.08 km.

This tension is added to the section between the Vinalopó bifurcation and the Elche Alta Velocidad station, which runs entirely in the province of Alicante, which took place last April.

Technical characteristics

The electrification of the new LAV is equipped with an alternating current system of 2×25,000 volts and 50 Hz of frequency. The electric power supply to the line is made by traction substations, which transform the voltage of 220 kV or 400 kV supplied by R.E.E. at 2×25 kV required for the catenary.

This power system allows a better distribution of currents and is the one used in all the new high speed lines in Spain. The system allows to extend the distance between traction substations, situating them to approximately 60-65 kilometers, with the consequent saving in facilities and beneficial effects on the environment.

The route between Monforte del Cid and Murcia has a length of 61.7 km (double track), of which 46.2 km are located in the province of Alicante and the remaining 15.5 km in Murcia.

European funds

This action is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through P.O. Plurirregional of Spain 2014-2020, Thematic Objective 7: Sustainable transport.
