A woman detained as the alleged author of the fire in pediatric emergencies of La Candelaria (Tenerife)

The patients were transferred to safe areas after activating the maximum alert level

The National Police has arrested a 51-year-old woman as the alleged perpetrator of the arson in the pediatric emergency service of the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria Hospital Complex in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The Hospital Management has confirmed that there are no deaths or serious injuries.

According to some witnesses who were waiting in the service, the fire alarm jumped about nine o’clock at night (Canary hour) after detecting a white smoke in the area.

The firemen acted during several hours in the emergency service of the Hospital of La Candelaria that remained isolated / Cadena SER

Immediately, the emergency services activated level three of maximum alert and proceeded to the evacuation of the entire service and, subsequently, also to the psychiatry plants and part of traumatology to safe areas of the Hospital Complex and to the outside of the center that was cut to traffic.

Up to the place have been transferred National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and firefighters teams, in addition to the mobilization of health personnel available in primary care centers and the University Hospital of the Canary Islands.

Up to seven fire trucks moved to the place they finished controlling and put out the fire around eleven o’clock at night.

After the immediate evacuation, the Ministry of Health confirms that thirty-four patients have been transferred to alternative hospital centers and the rest remain treated in safe areas of the Hospital itself.

Several dozen relatives were waiting for information outside La Candelaria Hospital until dawn / Cadena SER

Civil Protection has been in charge of the psychological assistance of family members who require it, who were waiting for outside the Center.
